Work never ends, not even during a break.
Before Christmas break I had talked to my mentor Mr. Odell, and he said that a great time to shadow would be over the christmas break. He also said I could even shadow him in the operating room at Mary Black. On the first monday of break I went into the OR at 8am and I saw two spine surgeries, where both patients had a herniated disk in there spine and needed it repaired. It was very interesting, especially considering that my mentor let me watch the surgery very closely. I went into the OR again the following week and shadowed my mentor several other times during break as well. I even went to Spartanburg Regional and did the HIPPA class so I could shadow Mr. Odell at Spartanburg Regional too. All in all it was very interesting and a great experience to shadow over the break even if I did have to wake up about 7 in the morning each time I shadowed. I am looking foreword to shadowing again soon, which will be in the next week or two and I am really progressing on my project since shadowing over Christmas break.

Be sure you write up your shadowing time describing what you saw and did. This should be included in your final portfolio so be sure to type it carefully!
ReplyDeleteVery good - as Mrs. Zion commented, we are all very interested in your experience - especially what YOU gained personally and how it may change your view of surgery/medicine in relationship to your project. Keep it up! Dr. B
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comments, and actuallyI have been typing a sort of journal on my computer of what I had done for shadowing, just so I can remember what I did.
